In recognition, he has won eight national awards for clinical excellence (BMA, BAMM, DoH, Hospital Doctor, Public Finance, Health Service Journal (x 2), Primary Care Reports). He has firmly established Psychiatric Intensive Care on the Department of Health and National Institute of Mental Health for England's agenda and initiated and developed National Policy in this area as well as in inpatient care. Under his Chairmanship, the NAPICU membership has increased to 130 Trusts and the first International Journal of Psychiatric Intensive Care launched in February 2005.
